Dear Friend of History,

We invite you to attend our final presentation in a series of programs that will be held in Southborough for the year 2009. Scheduled for Patriots Day, Sunday April 19, 2009, the afternoon event of short remarks, casual conversations, art exhibition, and photograph opportunities will be held in the function hall of the Pilgrim Congregational Church, Southborough, Massachusetts, and outdoors if weather permits.

Major General Joseph C. Carter, Adjutant General of Massachusetts will join us for this program on April 19, 2009. Also present will be surviving members of the Tuskegee Airmen who will be joined by several historians and military groups that have participated in our program.

The afternoon will begin at 1:45 PM as uniformed groups representing several eras of military soldiers form for the
2:00 PM arrival of General Carter.

Photograph opportunities are scheduled (professional photography will be available for those wishing to purchase photos) while informal talks between visitors and guests and viewing of the art collection in two buildings takes place.

Major General Carter is scheduled to speak at 3:15/3:30 PM.

At the conclusion of the short speaking program additional opportunities will be available for chats both at the hall and in the Historical Society Museum until 5:00 PM.

Sponsored by Stony Brook Museum Inc., “Buffalo Soldiers, The Hidden American History”, a program designed to inform the public about the participation of African-Americans in the military service of our country, has been offered in a series of bi-weekly programs at the Southborough Historical Society Museum. The series, a progressive timeline of the war periods, changing exhibitions of artwork, books, artifacts, and the presence of military re-enactors representing the featured historical era of the roles they portray has renewed a public interest in the history of our country. This program has shown that cooperative efforts between state agencies and non-profit organizations can produce new educational and informational programs for the public. It is our hope that you join us as we thank the patriots of past and present.

                Sincerely,

                Russell Horne, President
