Calendar of Events 2008 July 16th, 2008 - Board of Director's Meeting, 7PM at the Museum June 18, 2008 - Board of Director's Meeting, 7PM at the Museum June 8th, 2008 - "The Worcester Tornado of 1953" will be featured with a visit and presentation by expert and author William F. Chittick. This event will be held at the Pilgrim Church parish hall. Start time to be announced later. May 21st, 2008 - Board of Director's Meeting, 7PM at the Museum April 23rd, 2008 - Annual Member's Meeting, 7PM at the Museum April 16th, 2008 - Board of Director's Meeting, 7PM at the Museum March 19th, 2008 - Board of Director's Meeting, 7PM at the Museum 2007 April 25th, 2007 - "Popular Music of the Gaslight Era" will be featured at the Southborough Historical Society's Annual Meeting, April 25 at the Community House, Main Street. The business meeting will be held at 7 p.m. followed by the program at 7:30 p.m. Talented musician, John Root of Amherst, will entertain with his tenor voice and mastery of several instruments. Root states that the 1890 - 1920 period in music gave rise to ragtime, blues, marches, gospel, waltzes and songs with a variety of moods and messages. He invites everyone to sing along and learn how America's cultural diversity created unique musical styles. The program is partially funded by the
Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Southborough Cultural Arts Council and
the Southborough Historical Society. The public is invited to enjoy the music
free of charge. March 28th, 2007 - "The History of Southville and Cordaville". Program begins with short business meeting at 7 p.m. followed by speakers - Barbara Donahue - archaeologist and author of "Cordaville, Southborough"s 19th century Mill Village" will talk about Cordaville. Kate Matison, architectural historian and member of the Southborough Historical Commission will speak on Southville. Meeting will be held in the Parish Center of St. Matthews, 105 Southville Road, Southborough. Open to the public, no admission charge. 2006 December 10th, 2006 - "Christmas Remembered" meeting at the Museum on Sunday, December 10th, starting at 2PM. Everyone is getting together to share memories of family traditions and enjoy the Museum which will be dressed for the occasion. The meeting is open to the public and refreshments will be served. Any member requiring transportation should call the Museum at 508-229-8055 by December 8th. November 11th, 2006 - WWII "Wall of Names" showcase - Southborough Historical Society members have collected newspaper archives, war monument and funeral/cemetery records to create the "Wall of Names" which showcases residents who served in WWII. It will be unveiled on Veterans Day (Saturday, November 11th) at the Museum from 11:30AM to 1PM. Residents are welcome to add names and background material on the soldiers. This exhibit will be on display for November only. October 4th, 2006 - "Memories of Fayville" presentation - Come share your memories of the good old days of Fayville. 7:00PM at the Southborough Senior Center July 30th, 2006 - 4th Annual Member Cook-out from 4-6PM on the Museum Lawn. $5/person of $15/family. See flyer for details. RSVP by July 26. Rain date is August 6th. April 26th, 2006 - Southborough Historical Society annual meeting at the Knight of Columbus Hall, Main St. in Southborough (next to the Barber Shop). Agenda includes the election of officers and reports on committees among other items. March 22nd, 2006 - Program by member Russell Horne titled "Waterpower and Industry". Stony Brook, a part of Marlborough came into existence as Southborough because of these two elements. The program will explore the role of colonial industries and settlers in the development of the town. Taking advantage of the power of "a good run of water", they increased the production of their skills and trades to provide the necessities for the increasing flow of immigrants to America. Meeting will be held at 7PM at the Southborough Library meeting room, lower level 2005 Dec 7th, 2005 - "George III, the King Who Lost America" by Tony Howes, member of the Sudbury Minute and Militia (a re-enactment group). This will be a presentation on the British situation with respect to the American Revolution with the use of many contemporary pictures and cartoons to help tell the story. December 7 at 7 p.m. (please note earlier than usual time) at the Southborough Library meeting room, lower level.
