THE JOSEPH BURNETT COMPANY OF BOSTON, MASS.  AND IS COMPILED FROM

THE COLLECTION AND ARCHIVES OF THE SOUTHBOROUGH HISTORICAL

FOOD COLORING LIQUID

Each “Color Kit” contained 4 basic colors; red, green, yellow & blue

 

 

 

 Small (or 3/16 or 1/4 Ounce).

CONTAINER TYPE

 

 

Glass bottles.

 The early versions had cork tops; later versions had metal or plastic screw-on caps.

3/16 & 1/4 oz. size had the color type embossed into the glass.

All other sizes had paper labels.

Original color names from the early 1900’s, like Damask Rose, Mandarin Orange, Leaf Green, Fruit Red, Golden Yellow, Salmon Pink, and Imperial Blue, where simply exotic names for the same colors listed above. 

Colors were used over the years.  Not all were available at any one time.

Also came in a tablet form.

 

CONTAINER TYPE

 

A small cardboard box containing a glass jar with a metal screw cap.

The boxes had the instructions and other information printed on them.
