News Funding and Grants Approved (February, 2006) - The Historical Society recently received the unanimous approval of the Community Preservation Committee for funding a project that is being done in cooperation with the Southborough Public Library.The project involves digital photography of documents, the building of a display case to be used in the Library to exhibit copies of historical documents, and a safe to store the original documents. The Community Preservation Committee will present a motion for approval of the funding for the project to the voters at the April Town Meeting. The Society also has been awarded a Research Inventory Grant from the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities. The grant is awarded to small historical organizations to support the costs of conducting inventory projects designed with specific research questions in mind. The Society will inventory late 18th and early 19th century tax records and receipts for any information on a triphammer that was in operation in Southborough along Stony Brook in 1795.
