News Society at Selectmen’s Meeting (October, 2006) - The Historical Society represented by the Board of Directors presented three items through Society President David Falconi at the October 24th Selectmen’s Meeting. The first for renewing the lease of the museum building with the town due to expire in July, 2007 was agreed to be extended until July, 2010. The second item, thanks to member Susan Allen, in regard to the Societies application for CPA funding of work necessary for preservation of the historic museum building and its contents received the support of the Selectmen and the Historical Commission. The third item, with a presentation by member Russell Horne, was to see if the town would accept a ninety-nine year lease of the historic Nichols House property if an agreement is reached with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority . The acceptance would require a vote of Town Meeting and will be added to the Warrant when an agreement is finalized. The Historical Society plans to use the property as a museum to house its permanent exhibits collections.
